Resilient Peasants

Growing resilient Communities

This project continues to support earlier work of the same group of persons (see archive "Vitamins in front of the doorstep") though under a new name, Guba (Si Swati for "dig"). Guba is a spin-off from Moya Centre, another of sahee's partners. The two organizations work together very well, each specializing in its core field.
The project enables subsistence farmers to grow organic food and to become independent of producers of seeds and fertilizers. The project is focusing at the central region of Swaziland.
Participants learn about natural cycles and conservation agriculture which is a way to use the soil without disturbing it much and at the same time reducing the need of manpower. This is especially important in Swaziland, where most families are suffering from the HIV-pandemic with many sick and weak family members.
Thanks to the knowledge to use own seeds and natural fertilizers, farmers learn to produce healthier food in a much cheaper way. This is why this project is very attractive for families with low income.
